Introduction

The SQ100 brings handsfree probing to any oscilloscope with a 1 MΩ input. Place the spring-loaded needle on the signal and let go, and the probe stays put while you set up the measurement.

Place the spring-loaded test needle on the signal, set the spring-loaded ground needle next to it and release. The flexible arm holds the probe in position and the N52 neodymium magnet in the base keeps it on the PCBite base plate. The SQ100 is a passive 10:1 probe for measurements up to 100 MHz, with 10 MΩ and 13 pF at the tip and a standard BNC connector. It has no probe ID pin, so the oscilloscope channel is set to 10:1 by hand.

The insulated probe can also be used handheld. A low center of gravity keeps it steady when used handsfree, and color coded cable holders in four channel colors show which probe goes to which input. An adjustment tool is included for compensating the probe to oscilloscope inputs from 8 pF to 27 pF.

The ground spring needle gives a short ground path for handsfree use and the ground spring does the same handheld, both at the full rated bandwidth. For ground points further away, a test hook, an alligator clip and ground leads with 2.54 mm (0.100 in) jumper connectors, often called Dupont connectors, are included.

The SQ100 is designed to IEC 61010-031 and rated CAT II 300 V RMS with the finger protection mounted. A PCBite base plate and holders are required for handsfree use.

BANDWIDTH WITHOUT COMPROMISE

Your oscilloscope is only as good as the probe connected to it.

PCBite probes are engineered for low loading, flat frequency response and accurate signal reproduction. In many setups, replacing the supplied general-purpose probe with a carefully matched PCBite probe can improve the performance of the complete measurement system. We design the probe to reveal what your oscilloscope can really do, not to become its limitation.

APPLICATIONS

For power, digital and analog measurements.

Two handsfree oscilloscope probes with long ground leads clipped on, measuring a PCB in PCBite holders for an oscilloscope.
PCB with multiple MMCX connectors and adapters for quick probe repositioning between test points
Two oscilloscope probes and four SQ10 probes measuring a PCB handsfree, connected to a Keysight oscilloscope.
Four SQ10 probes with gold spring-loaded needles on the pins of a fine-pitch IC, picking up bus signals handsfree.
Four handsfree oscilloscope probes with yellow, blue, green and red cable holders on a small PCB, one per scope channel.

Long ground leads are useful for locating the signal and making initial contact, but their added inductance can introduce ringing on fast switching edges. For accurate measurements, replace the long ground lead with the short spring-loaded ground to minimize the ground loop. This provides a cleaner view of edge shape, overshoot and dead time while keeping the probe in place handsfree. Leave the probe connected while adjusting the control loop or changing the duty cycle.

NEEDLES

Every needle, spring-loaded.

Both the test needle and ground needle are spring-loaded, providing a defined, consistent contact force on the pad. This keeps the connection stable throughout the measurement, even if the setup is bumped or exposed to vibration.

SPRING-LOADED GROUND

We reinvented the ground.

High-end probes often use a spring-loaded signal needle for reliable contact. The same principle is applied to ground with Sensepeek’s patented spring-loaded ground, positioned close to the signal point. The short ground path reduces loop inductance and improves signal integrity, while the spring-loaded ground adds the mechanical stability needed for reliable handsfree measurements.

CONTACT FORCE

Less force. More control.

With spring-loaded signal and ground needles, a PCBite probe needs only about 60 g (2.1 oz) to maintain reliable contact with the test point. That light contact force makes the probe easy to hold steady, even during long handheld measurements. Fixed-needle probes can require 5 to 8 times more force, which quickly becomes tiring and makes precise placement on small pads more difficult.

FREQUENCY RESPONSE

Why flatness matters beyond bandwidth.

Bandwidth alone doesn’t tell you how accurately a probe measures a signal. A probe can meet its bandwidth specification while amplitude changes significantly with frequency, which is why flat frequency response matters. For the SQ100, the goal is to preserve signal amplitude across its full 100 MHz usable bandwidth.

CABLE HOLDERS

Know every channel at a glance.

Every SQ10 and PCBite oscilloscope probe includes cable holders in four standard channel colors used by leading test equipment manufacturers. They keep cables organized and make each channel easy to trace from instrument to measurement point. Eight colors are available for larger or more complex setups.

SAFETY

Measure with confidence.

Our standard PCBite oscilloscope probes are designed and independently tested against IEC 61010-031 and rated CAT II 300 V RMS. Performance matters. So does using a probe designed for the measurement environment.

ANTI-SHAKE

Steady placement. Reliable contact.

The flexible arm and probe weight keep the spring-loaded needle partially compressed during measurement, maintaining contact even if the setup is disturbed. The arm also adds controlled resistance when positioning the needle on fine-pitch components, making precise placement easier even with a slightly unsteady hand.

MULTI-POINT MEASUREMENT

Multiple probes. Long measurements. No hands required.

Position several SQ100 probes across the board and leave them in place for both quick measurements and long triggering sessions. The probes maintain contact throughout the measurement, enabling simultaneous multi-point measurements that are impractical with handheld probes.
